- Part D due (with actual testing) = 2/9
- Part E = 2/16
- Part F = 2/23
- ENTIRE THING DUE MARCH 1st
- Codega's deadline is March 8th so there is NO flexibility in this...
11/28
TOPICS
ESSENTIAL IDEAS
CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Begin to work on your prototype
- Now that you have materials start to put together a real plan for Wednesday
11/21
TOPICS
- 10.3 -- Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM)
- 10.4 -- Quality Management
- 10/5 -- Economic Viability
ESSENTIAL IDEAS
- Computer integrated manufacturing uses computers to automatically monitor and control the entire production of a product
- Quality management focuses on producing products of consistent required quality
- Designers must consider the economic viability of their designs for them to gain a place in the market
CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Read and annotate the handout on Topics 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5
- Let's go over what you read!
- Take some brief notes in your notebook about how to price a product using this website
- As you are reading those, Codega will conference individually with you about materials for the prototype
- Informal meet up at Lowes tomorrow morning???
HOMEWORK
- All materials need to be ordered/in your possession by Tuesday November 28 so we can start building your prototypes!
- This WILL BE A TEST GRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
11/17
TOPICS
- 10.1 -- Just in Time and Just in Case
- 10.2 -- Lean Production
ESSENTIAL IDEAS
- Just in time and just in case are opposing production strategies utilized by the manufacturers
- Lean production aims to eliminate waste and maximize the value of a product based on the perspective of a consumer
CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Discuss the work you did last time on JIT and JIC
HOMEWORK
- All materials need to be ordered/in your possession by Tuesday November 28 so we can start building your prototypes!
11/15
KEY CONCEPTS
OBJECTIVES
- Gain a basic understanding of Topic 10 -- Commercial production.
CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Take a look at this image.
- In your notebook define, explain, list advantages/disadvantages (you know, whatever the guide says you need to know in both the CONCEPTS AND PRINCIPLES and GUIDANCE) for Topics 10.1 and 10.2
- 10.1
- 10.2
- Use the following resources to help with this:
- I will check this for a grade FRIDAY!!!
- You are IB kids -- you have a lot going on...keep busy for the remainder of the block please!
11/13
KEY CONCEPTS
OBJECTIVES
- Analyze the differences between IB DT Command Terms
- Complete an IB practice Paper 2 question set
CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Discuss the article you should have read for homework...
- Working with a partner construct a perfect answer to a Paper 2 set of questions
- Then let's exchange them with another group and grade them according to an IB rubric making sure to give GOOD FEEDBACK!
- Time to vote on what to do next -- it's like a terrible CYOA book...
HOMEWORK
- All materials need to be ordered/in your possession by Tuesday November 28 so we can start building your prototypes!
11/9
KEY CONCEPTS
OBJECTIVES
- Analyze the differences between IB DT Command Terms
CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Command term quiz (it's really easy!)
- Applying the command terms
- Working with a partner we will move around the room to each station and answer a questions. The length and complexity of your response will depend on the COMMAND TERM!
- Everyone needs to keep time -- use the stopwatch on your phone -- to see how long it takes you to answer the question. the point of this is not to answer it first (looking at you Patrick, Will, Robert) but just to see how long it takes.
- Only one person in each group needs to write
HOMEWORK
- Read this article and be ready to discuss!
11/7
KEY CONCEPTS
OBJECTIVES
- Analyze the differences between IB DT Command Terms
CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Hand in your PART C!!!!
- Let's talk about the May 2017 Subject Report
- It just came out so we can go over some parts of it together.
- Let's divide it up into small groups and create a bullet list of take aways for the IA -- everyone needs to write these down somewhere!!!!!!!!! PAGES 2-6
- A = Hal, Bess, and Avery
- B = Will and Marco
- C = Patrick and Robert
- D = Jay, Elizabeth
- E = Ashlyn and Lane
- F = Aarin and Jason
- Time to talk about the EXAM! Less than 200 days away!!
- Here is the basic layout
- Paper 1 = 40 multiple choice questions (1 hour & 40 marks)
- Paper 2 = Short Answer (1.5 Hours and 50 marks)
- Part A -- Answer all parts
- 1 set of questions based on a data set
- Several short-answer on core material
- Part B -- Answer one (out of three choices)
- extended response on the core material
- Paper 3 = Short / extended responses
- Part A -- answer all parts
- on the HL extension material
- Part B -- answer all parts
- one structured response on the HL extension stuff based on a CASE STUDY!
- Fun fact -- you can use a:
- Next, we need to discuss the COMMAND TERMS!
HOMEWORK
- COMMAND TERMS QUIZ NEXT CLASS!
- All materials for the IA need to be ordered and (hopefully) in by 11/27.
11/1
KEY CONCEPTS
OBJECTIVES
- Show tangible progress on Part C
CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Part C is now due on Tuesday 11/7
- It is pretty obvious that Autodesk isn't going to be installed anytime soon on the school laptops, therefore, you need to have a backup plan. I will accept tinkercad for 3D printed projects (except you Bess and Ashlyn + anyone else who has a personal laptop/is doing it at home). Everyone else needs to create FORMAL DRAWINGS!
- Approach C like it could be given to anyone and they could make your prototype. NO DETAIL IS TOO SMALL!!!
