11

OBJECTIVES

  • Create anything that introduces yourself to Codega and your classmates.
  • Document the process you used to come up with and then develop your project.

STANDARDS

N/A

CLASS ACTIVITIES

  • Today (Wed.) and tomorrow (Thurs.) you will introduce yourselves to me and to one another, but there is a catch:
    • You will have 3 hours to design and then create anything you want that captures the essence of you
    • The project MUST contain the following elements (point value is included in the parentheses):
      1. Your design can take any form but CREATIVITY is paramount.  This class will require you to think creatively to solve complex problems on an almost daily basis so why not see if you measure up.  By interacting with it (whatever that means for your design) Codega must get a sense of who you are.  There is a degree of subjectivity to this therefore a formal grade will not be assigned until after the presentations are given (75 points)
        1. If this sounds unreasonable to you please reconsider taking this class -- HL Geography and Math are looking for more students!
        2. This part will be turned in on Thursday at the end of class and will be presented to Codega and the class on Monday -- NO EXTENSIONS!
      2. You must provide a WRITTEN explanation of your thought process  -- how did you come up with your idea (hint: it didn't just pop into your head) (20 points)
        1. Length -- as long as you think it should be...
        2. Included any notes, sketches, or brainstorming that you did in the design phase (just attach it to the written document)
      3. The Presentation (5 points)
        1. Basically take no more than 1 minute to explain your project.
    • You can work on this at home BUT Codega MUST see you working on it in class (progress will be recorded as a daily grade)
    • THIS PROJECT IS INTENTIONALLY VAGUE!
    • This will count as your first test grade.
  • HOMEWORK
    • Take a look at these two images.
      • #1
      • #2
        • What do you notice about them?  There is a fundamental flaw in the design of this room?  Can you figure it out?

8/19 & 8/21

12

STANDARDS

IB Topics 1-4

OBJECTIVES

  • Create and post a one page review guide for a DT Topic
  • Create a hands on activity that reinforces the main idea from a DT Topic

CLASS ACTIVITIES

  • Last class Codega assigned each of you a topic to create a one page review document and a 5 minute reteaching activity to go along with it.  Here are the important details:
    • The one page document MUST CONTAIN THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
      • At least three images that relate to your topic
      • Covers all aspects of the topic -- make sure you hit everything that is in the IB DT Guide.
      • Has a link to at least one video that relates to your topic.
      • Has an easy to read, follow and has an aesthetically pleasing layout (remember, this is DESIGN technology after all!)
      • Emailed to Codega by the end of class on Friday -- NO EXCEPTIONS!
    • A five (5) minute hands on activity that reinforces the content from your project.
      •  The activity must demonstrate creativity and analytical thinking (NO WORKSHEETS or anything that is related to a worksheet -- no crosswords, fill in the blank, etc.  THIS IS A HANDS ON ACTIVITY!!!!
      •  No longer than 10 minutes but no shorter than 5 minutes
      • Helps the class gain a deeper understanding of your project.
  • Each of these will count as a test grade (the first two of the year) and you will be assessed on Wed. and Friday on your progress towards.
  •  Here are the rubrics
